Recently, Jiangsu University (JSU)’s foreign student Michael Lordmark Mubaiwa (or Chinese name Yang Jing) from Zimbabwe won the Regional Prize in the advanced round of the 3rd Stories of China Retold in English Challenge Competition (domestic foreign students category).
The competition, jointly organized by China Education Television, Center for Language Education and Cooperation, and New Channel International Education Group Limited, aims to publicize stories of China to the world in a vivid way. Of the 600 overseas student contestants from all over China, Michael Lordmark Mubaiwa got a high score and participated in the final contest.
The final contest consisted of three sessions: keynote speech, impromptu Q & A, and talent show. Michael Lordmark Mubaiwa expressed himself in Chinese fluently and humorously, and his talent show was full of Chinese cultural elements, so he won the Regional Prize, i.e. the highest prize. His tutor Xu Dan won the Excellent Tutor Prize.
JSU Language Center attaches importance to the innovation of foreign student education. The Center’s foreign student educational activities involve traditional Chinese culture, cultural practice, and telling stories about China, which is appealing to the overseas students. The activities help the international students understand and identify with the Chinese culture, become raconteurs of stories about China, and promoters of Chinese culture going global.
