From July 2 to 5, the national finals of the 2023 Casting Process Design Competition of National Competition of Innovation and Creation in Mechanical Engineering for Chinese University Students was held in Wu Xi, and 104 entries submitted by 44 universities and colleges were eligible for the finals. 9 works of Jiangsu University (JSU) participated in this competition.Postgraduate student of School of Materials Science & Engineering of JSU Yu Hui and his team won a first prize and other 4 teams won the third prizes after two-days on-site demonstration and defense and casting knowledge quiz.

Hosted by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society for 14 sessions since 2009, this competition has attracted more than 25,000 students from more than 150 universities and colleges. Listed as a Category A event in the Ranking List of National University Discipline Competitions, it is also ranked among the best in terms of competition level and size.

As one of the foundations of the manufacturing industry, casting serves as an important supporting force for high-end equipment manufacturing. In the cultivation of talents for foundry industry, JSU has deepened the integration of industry with education, and established a double-tutorial system, in which students’ ability to learn and solve problems in casting manufacturing has been strengthened and improved under the guidance of tutors.

During the competition, two teachers of JSU Liu Guanglei and Liu Haixia also attended the symposiums, lectures on design standards and other activities, which further strengthened exchanges and sharing with colleges and universities, and experts, laying a good foundation for the casting talent cultivation.
