On April 25 and 26, the delegation led by President of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe, visited Jiangsu University (JSU). President of JSU Prof. Yan Xiaohong, met with the delegation along with heads of International Office, School of the Environmental and Safety Engineering and Overseas Education College. Vice president of JSU Prof. Zhao Yutao hosted the cooperation negotiation between the two universities, Director of the International Office Prof. Pan Jianfeng and Executive Secretary of the International University Consortium for Agricultural Engineering Prof. Sun Jianzhong attended the meeting.
Prof. Yan Xiaohong extended a warm welcome to Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe for his first visit to JSU. He introduced JSU’s history, current situation, international cooperation and foreign students education in JSU. JSU and UNN should deepen the cooperation in agriculture-related talent cultivation, teacher training, scientific research and international conferences, said Prof. Yan Xiaohong. The 2 universities share similar educational philosophy, disciplinary features and development orientations, said Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe. He expressed gratitude to JSU for training teachers for PhD degrees and other international students from Nigerian universities, and looked forward to extensive research cooperation in agricultural machinery, energy and power, environmental engineering and biological engineering. JSU and UNN signed an agreement to establish a joint laboratory.
At the cooperation promotion meeting, Prof. Zhao Yutao expressed his appreciation to UNN for its contribution to the development of International University Consortium for Agricultural Engineering. The 2 universities discussed the prospect of the Consortium, and planned to combine the strengths and unique features of the two sides to promote the work of the Consortium. Prof. Charles Arizechukwu Igwe and his delegation discussed with School of the Environmental and Safety Engineering about potential cooperation in environmental safety and engineering, and visited the Analysis and Testing Centre and laboratories of the School. They discussed with the Overseas Education College about the details of International Talent Training Program, and talked with the university teachers from UNN who are pursuing their doctoral degrees at JSU.
University of Nigeria is the first comprehensive public federal university in Nigeria. It is located in Enugu State and has three campuses in Nsukka, Enugu, and Itukku-Ozara. UNN is a member of the International University Consortium for Agricultural Engineering, which was established by JSU in 2019. UNN has collaborated with JSU in organizing an international seminar on the climate change during COVID-19, and 17 teachers have been chosen to pursue their doctoral degrees in JSU through International Teacher Training Program.
