Closing Ceremony of International Training Programs on Agricultural Mechanization

On August 30, 2022, The Closing Ceremony for International Training Programs on Agricultural Mechanization by Ministry of Education and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was held at Jiangsu University (JSU). During the 5-month project, 123 trainees from Zambia, Ethiopia, Congo, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Pakistan and other African and Asia-Pacific countries completed all the courses covering crops from planting to harvesting, processing and storage.

Member of the High-level Advisory Committee of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Secretary-General of the Xi Jinping Thought on Diplomacy Research Center, and President of the China Institute of International Studies Xu Bu, President of JSU Prof. Yan Xiaohong, Vice President of JSU Prof. Zhao Yutao, Vice President of Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Jia Jun, Deputy Director of the Center for Korean Studies of Fudan University Prof. Xing Liju, Representatives of Agricultural Equipment International (Capacity) Cooperation Alliance and Overseas General Manager of World Group Liu Furui attended the ceremony. More than 200 preventatives including faculty members and students attended the ceremony online and offline. The ceremony was hosted by the Dean of the Overseas Education College Prof. Gao Jing.

In Prof. Yan Xiaohong’s speech, he affirmed the content and teaching mode of the training program. Prof. Yan believed that the training has made positive efforts to improve the value chain of agricultural products, realize the United Nations, goals of eradicating hunger, achieving food security, improving nutritional status and promoting sustainable agricultural. In order to promote the cooperation between universities and enterprises on agricultural modernization, he called on all students to actively play the role of ambassadors of friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreign youths, and to spread Chinese agricultural mechanization technology and products to countries alongside the "Belt and Road".A highlight video of key moments from the months of training was shown after the address, along with certificates being presented to the students and instructors for successfully completing the program.

Xu Bu affirmed the work of JSU in promoting the international transfer of agricultural machinery technology and the cultivation of international talents. He hoped that JSU would continue to maintain close cooperation with the United Nations, work together on the innovation and application of agricultural mechanization technology, and continuously supply agricultural talents to the international community. Xu Bu also hoped that the students will apply what they learn in the countries alongside the "Belt and Road" after the training program, and contribute to the sustainable development of global agriculture and global poverty reduction.

At the ceremony, Prof. Yan Xiaohong, Prof. Zhao Yutao and Prof. Jia Jun issued certificates to the representatives of the training teachers and trainees. Liu Furui welcomed the students to visit World Group again. The teacher representatives from JSU and Jiangsu Vocational College of Agriculture and Forestry Chen Shuren and Zhao Menglong, student representatives Juliet Wanza from Kenya, Ekponoimo King Ibritam from Nigeria, Muhammad Waqar Akram from Pakistan, and Tinaye A. Chinhenzva from Zimbabwe delivered the acknowledgments separately.

During the ceremony, the unveiling ceremony of the Institute of Global Development and Security of JSU and the appointment ceremony of Adjunct Prof. Xu Bu were also held.

The international training project on agricultural mechanization originated from the Zambia agricultural machinery training course of JSU in 2018, created an online and offline integration training model in 2020 due to the impact of the epidemic, and was through upgraded integration with projects of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2022, including the Ministry of Education's "China-Africa Friendship" Chinese Government Scholarship program, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs "China-Pakistan Modern Agricultural Regional Innovation Institute" Modern Agricultural Training Program and Jiangsu University’s "Harvest Africa" Zambia Agricultural Mechanization Training Project.
