The 10th Summer Program on Innovative Engineering Design (SPIED) was successfully held from August 19 to 25. More than 70 students and teachers from 7 universities in China, Japan and South Korea participated in the program through an online platform. President Yan Xiaohong delivered a video speech at the opening ceremony.
President Yan Xiaohong of Jiangsu University (JSU) congratulated SPIED on its 10th anniversary, saying that it has developed into a unique brand program for teaching innovation in engineering disciplines. It plays an important role in strengthening international exchanges among students and teachers from China, Japan and South Korea, by sharing high-quality teaching resources, establishing an international platform for innovative teaching practice, promoting international academic exchanges, and jointly enhancing the innovation ability of students majoring in engineering and related disciplines.
During the program, 60 students were divided into 10 teams to brainstorm, focusing on designing intelligent equipment to fulfill the needs during the epidemic period. Under the guidance of teachers from China, Japan and South Korea, they jointly completed innovative design, finished device production, and finally demonstrated their works.
Public Transportation Handle Using UV Light, the work submitted by the team comprising by Lu Zhenyu from the School of Computer Science and Communication Engineering, JSU won the special award. The Non-Contact Vending Machine, the work submitted by the team comprising by Yu Huaohao from School of Agricultural Engineering, JSU and Clean Oil Smoke Air, the work submitted by the team comprising by He Zhuofang from the School of Food and Biological Engineering, JSU won gold awards.
Originally initiated in 2013 by the three founder universities namely Yamaguchi University of Japan, Kunsan National University of South Korea and Jiangsu University of China, SPIED has become an important platform for students in the fields of mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, measurement and control, computer science etc., to enhance their interdisciplinary innovation ability, build team spirit and their international communication ability, which will gradually guide and motivate them to embark on the road of innovation and entrepreneurship. JSU has successfully hosted the program in 2014, 2017 and 2021.
