Recently, China’s Ministry of Education (MoE) announced the List of National and Provincial First-class Undergraduate Majors 2020. 17 majors of Jiangsu University (JSU) were selected as the national first-class undergraduate majors, and the number of selected majors ranked 1st among Jiangsu provincial universities. Up to now, JSU has 30 national first-class undergraduate majors.
MoE’s “Double Ten Thousand Plan” for first-class Undergraduate Majors was launched in April 2019 to build 10,000 national-level first-class undergraduate majors and 10,000 provincial-level first-class undergraduate majors from 2019 to 2021. The Plan aims at promoting first-class undergraduate education, major development, and talent cultivation in the fields of engineering, medicine, agriculture, and liberal arts. In this connection, colleges and universities in China move faster towards the revitalization of undergraduate education in an all-round way, improvement in talents cultivation, and the connotative development of higher education.
In recent years, JSU has adopted scientific measures to fulfill the fundamental task of moral education so as to continuously strengthen a major development and improve talent cultivation. Taking MoE’s recognition of the 17 majors as an opportunity, JSU will drive up the leading role of them to map out a blueprint for the construction, layout and characteristics of majors. With the betterment of majors and talent cultivation capability, JSU is set to become a renowned university with quality undergraduate education.
