July 7, 2020

On June 29, 2020, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy released Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) of this year. Some disciplines of Jiangsu University (JSU) were selected into the ranking. Among them, Chemical Engineering entered the top 50 in the world for the first time, Food Science and Engineering entered the top 75, and Instrument Science entered the top 100. The number of disciplines of JSU is ranked 50th in universities nationwide, ranked 2nd in Jiangsu Provincial universities, and ranked 3rd in national “non-double first-class” universities.

GRAS covers 54 disciplines, covering the five major fields of Science, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medicine and Social Sciences. The ranking is conducted to measure the performance of global universities in related disciplines on basis of a series of internationally comparable objective academic indicators, such as leading international awards, top academic achievements, research quality, and international cooperation. This year, Shanghai Ranking Consultancy optimized the evaluation system by replacing the original “total number of papers” with “the number of top journal papers” to measure the high-level scientific research output of the evaluated universities in the corresponding discipline.
