On October 23rd to 29th, President Prof. Yan Xiaohong was invited to lead a delegation composed of the leaders from the Science and Technology Department, Planning Development Department, School of Art and International Office to visit Austria and Portugal. They had participated in the 4th "The Belt and Road" Chinese Forum, hold the Confucius Institute Council meeting, visited the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and finally visited the University of Graz and the University of Aveiro.
This “The Belt and Road” Chinese Forum was held by the Confucius Institute jointly established by JSU and the University of Graz on October 23rd to 25th. As the supporting unit of the organizer, President Yan gave a speech in the opening ceremony. He also delivered a keynote speech on "Thoughts and Practice on Cultivation of Innovative Talents with Diversification and Cooperation between Industry and Education ", to introduce the Practice and Talent training and the overall situation of JSU to the delegates. More than 200 representatives from Austria Chinese, German governments, universities, scientific research institutions and business circles, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Chinese Embassy in Austria participated in the forum, which include 6 keynote speeches and 26 lectures. The student Students Art Group from School of Art performed in the forum, and the forum was a complete success. During the visiting in the University of Graz, Austria, our two universities jointly signed a cooperation agreement for the Erasmus project and attended the Confucius Institute Council meeting. At the meeting, the Dean of the Confucius Institute reported on the work in 2018 and the work plan in 2019. The Council discussed the key work and development direction of the Confucius Institute. The two sides decided to continue the Confucius Institute and set up special features for two universities. The cooperation between China and Austria and the friendship between two nations have made great contributions. President Yan visited the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Pharmacy of the University of Graz, and talked with the department heads and professors about the academic and talent exchanges between two universities.
The delegation also paid a special visit to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Vienna, with Director D. Tezera of the Agricultural Division, Director of the Asia-Pacific Region Wang Zhen and officials from the Asia-Pacific region. The ideas and plans for the personnel training program for agricultural equipment were discussed and approved. President Yan also invited the United Nations Industrial Development Organization to participate in and guide the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation and Development on Agricultural Modernization, which is to be held by JSU.
During the delegation's visit to the University of Aveiro, Portugal, Prof. P. J. Ferreira, President of the University of Aveiro, Prof. J. A. Costa, Vice President of the University of Aveiro and Mr. N. Power, Deputy Director of the Office of the President, conducted friendly exchanges on inter-university teacher-student exchanges and scientific research cooperation. The presidents of two universities signed a student exchange agreement. The delegation also visited Prof. P. Vilarinho (Chairman of the Portuguese Society of Materials Science and Engineering) and his laboratory at the School of Materials Engineering.
