Brief Introduction
Dr Hongying Meng is a currently lecturer at the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering and a full member of Institute of Environment, Health and Societies under the theme of Biomedical Engineering at Brunel University London, UK. He has extensive research experience affective computing, machine learning, image processing, human computer interaction and embedded systems. He has over 80 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications. He is also the winner of audio sub-challenge of the first International Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC) in 2011 (http://sspnet.eu/avec2011/) and the affect recognition sub-challenge of AVEC2013 (http://sspnet.eu/avec2013/).
In this lecture, Dr Meng will present the work on emotion recognition from facial expression videos within his research group. It will cover the facial expression dynamic feature extraction, advanced machine learning methods for classification and regression. It includes the emotional state recognition system that won the audio sub-challenge of the first International Audio/Visual Emotion Challenge (AVEC) in 2011 (http://sspnet.eu/avec2011/) and also another emotional state recognition system from facial expression that won the affect recognition sub-challenge in AVEC2013 (http://sspnet.eu/avec2013/).
