“A Whole-cell electrochemical biosensing system based on bacterial inward electron flow for fumarate quantification”, the latest research finding by Yong Yangchun, Professor of the School of The Environment and Safety Engineering, was selected as the “Key Scientific Article” for Global Medical Discovery (GMD) magazine. Recently Professor Yong Yangchun was invited to be the GMD special international consultant for his brilliant academic contributions to the field of biosensors.
Electrochemical biosensing system
The key to effective cancer treatment is early diagnosis, so sensitive and simple detection methods for cancer biomarkers are in urgent need. With the platform of the Biofuels Institute of Jiangsu University and the in-depth knowledge accumulated on environmental microbial electron transport research, Professor Yong Yangchun developed the electrochemical biosensing platform on the basis of microbial reverse electron transfer theory for the first time and also took the lead in bioelectrochemical detection at high-sensitivity and specificity of the fumaric acid, one kind of kidney cancer marker. The biosensing platform has a series of advantages, such as using simple instruments, convenient operation, quick response time, high sensitivity, and simple maintenance. The research has important theoretical value and application prospects.
GMD was established in 2002 and relies on expert teams consisting of top academic institutions and pharmaceutical industry members from all over the world. It usually selects less than 0.1% articles (about 20 pieces) from tens of thousands of high-level SCI papers on medicical-related fields every week, the ones which have vital academic and application value and are regarded as the latest highlights which can benefit from focal-point reporting and promotion. Moreover, these selected papers will become the weather vane of related fields and the findings will be of great interest to other researchers. So far, only a few academic achievements made by Chinese scholars have been chosen to be published in GMD. Professor Yong’s paper will strengthen Jiungsu University’s international influence in related academic fields and promote the transformation of achievements.
