Days ago, Prof. Robert McGorrin and Prof. Yanyun Zhao at Oregon State University of the United States paid an academic visit to Jiangsu University. On the afternoon of April 25 in the 2nd Lecture Hall of the International Conference Center, Prof. Yanyun Zhao gave faculties and students of Jiangsu University a lecture entitled “Edible coatings and films for enhancing food quality and ensuring food safety”. The lecture was presided over by Prof. Ma Haile, Dean of the School of Food and Biological Engineering and attended by faculties and students of the hosting School.

At his lecture, Prof. Robert McGorrin gave an introduction to Oregon State University and the Department of Food Science and Technology of the College of Agricultural Sciences, focusing on the research orientations and staffs of the Department of Food Science and Technology. Prof. Zhao elaborates on his investigation of many years into methods for improving the quality of fruits and vegetables, elongating their shelf period and key technologies for solving the problems concerning the packaging and preservation of agricultural and food products by using edible coatings and the addition of such functional factors as anti-bacterial agents and nutritional fortifiers.

After the lecture, talks were held between the guests and Prof. Li Zhongxing, Director of the International Office and Prof. Ma Haile, Dean of the School of Food and Biological Engineering. A preliminary agreement was reached on furthering the multiple-level mutual exchanges between the two parties. Then accompanied by Prof. Ma Haile, Prof. Robert McGorrin and Prof. Zhao Haiyun visited the laboratories of the hosting School.
