MOU Signing Ceremony of Sino-EU Research and Innovation Partnership held in JSU

October 23, a delegation of 5 including Mr. Harald Kainz, President of the European Sustainable Energy Innovation Alliance (ESEIA) and Rector of the Graz University of Technology and Ms. Brigitte Hasewend, Executive President of the ESEIA visited Jiangsu University. The delegates were warmly greeted by President Yuan Shouqi of Jiangsu University and the MOU of Sino-EU Research and Innovation Partnership was signed, which would further promote the international cooperation between Jiangsu University and the EU.
During their meeting, President Yuan Shouqi and Rector Harald Kainz each introduced the development strategies, disciplinary advantages and research characteristics of their own university. Then Ms. Brigitte Hasewend, Executive President of the ESEIA and Professor Sun Jianzhong, Head of the Institute of Biofuels at Jiangsu University respectively introduced the development of the ESEIA and the Sino-EU work on the application for some major international cooperation projects. Others who attended the talks and the signing ceremony included Mr. Daniela Unger-Ullmann, Dean of the Graz Institute of Confucius, Mr. Chen Wanjie, Deputy Dean of the Graz Institute of Confucius (also a councilor on Sino-EU strategic cooperation at the ESEIA), Professor Chen Long, Vice President of Jiangsu University, heads of the International Office, the Science and Technology Office, the Institute of Agricultural Equipment Engineering, the Research Center for Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Biofuels, and the Institute of Energy.
Deriving from the Sino-EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (Horizon 2020), the MOU of Sino-EU Research and Innovation Partnership is a bilateral agreement on the regeneration, recycling and high-value utilization of important resources that mainly involves the cooperation in the energy system for urban and local sustainable development, innovative agriculture, and the multi-renewable use, sustainable development and biological refinery of food wastes. Parties concerned with the Programme include governments, institutions of higher learning and enterprises, with Jiangsu University and the Graz University of Technology respectively chairing the Chinese and the European affairs. The signing of the MOU can not only promote the long-standing and profound cooperation between the Chinese and the European governments, scientists and entrepreneurs, but also help establish the shared knowledge base platform that may provide a theoretical guide for the decision-making of both the Chinese and the European policy-makers.
During his stay in Jiangsu University, Rector Harald Kainz and his colleagues visited the Jiangsu University History Museum, the Research Center for Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology accompanied by President Yuan Shouqi. The European visitors sang a high praise for the research facilities, the scientific and technological potentials and the rapid development of Jiangsu University and expressed a strong wish for a long-term cooperation in the future.
The ESEIA is made up of more than 20 distinguished universities of the EU, more than 170 enterprises and more than 140 experts and has become the largest and most powerful sustainable energy innovation alliance in the EU. The ESEIA takes the lead in quite a few research orientations in the field of new energy and renewable energy and has made great contributions to the industrialization of several new energy products.
