Prof. Lei Bao at Ohio State University visits JSU

July 2, Lei Bao, PhD Supervisor, Tenured Professor at Department of Physics and School of Teaching and Learning, Ohio State University, gave an academic lecture entitled “Development and assessment of student capability: skills and education for the 21st century” in the 3rd Lecture Hall of the International Meeting Center of Jiangsu University. The lecture, presided over by Prof. Xu Boqiang, Deputy Dean of the Science Faculty, was attended by faculties and students of the Department of Physics as well as Wang Shanmin, Party Secretary of the Science Faculty.

In his lecture, Prof. Bao introduced the history, fields and methods of physics education and research. He dwelled on steps and approaches for education research and the assessment of education with scientific tools. Other contents of his lecture include the latest development in teaching models and methods for physics education and research in the United States, differences between the Chinese and the American education, and ways to be accepted by an American college or university. Finally he answered questions raised by the audience.

Prof. Lei Bao’s mainly carries out researches on comparison of the Chinese and the American education, cultivation of student capability, effectiveness of classroom interaction, educational assessment modeling, etc. He is currently Professor at both the Department of Physics and the School of Teaching and Learning, Ohio State University, former President of the American Association of Physics Teachers, Member of the International Affairs Committee of Ohio State University, director of the China-US Educational Research and Exchange Center at Ohio State University, Editor-in-chief of International Education Research and Assessment, PhD, and Guest Professor at colleges and universities in several countries, including Tsinghua University in China.
