October 29, Prof. Peter Tijssen at Quebec University of Canada and President of the Parvovirus Subfamily of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV), and Prof. Max Bergoin at Université Montpellier 2 and member of the Parvovirus Subfamily of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) were employed as part-time professors of Jiangsu University. The ceremony of employment held in the 3rd Lecture Hall of the International Meeting Center was attended by Xu Huaxi, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Party’s Discipline Inspection Commission of Jiangsu University, who granted a letter of employment to the two professors and pinned the school badge of Jiangsu University for them.
The ceremony of employment was presided over by Research Fellow Chen Keping, Dean of the Institute of Life Sciences. After the ceremony was over, Prof. Tijssen and Prof. Max Bergoin each gave a report, respectively titled “The evolution and milestones of densovirus research” and “The expression strategy of the Junonia coenia densovirus(JcDNV) genome”.
As an international authoritative figure in the field of Parvovirus, Prof. Peter Tijssen is strong in studies on the Parvovirus crystal structure and pathology. His research group claimed the first discovery of the capsid protein phospholipase activity. He has published 5 monographs, more than 100 academic papers in such famous periodicals as Immunology, Developmental Cell, Journal of Virology. And as an internationally renowned insect virologist and pathologist, Prof. Max Bergoin has made great achievements in such research fields as the genome structure and the transcription and translation mechanism of Densonucleosis virus and the use of Densovirus as genetically modified insect vector and he organized and chaired international meetings as well.
In addition, the two professors listened to three reports delivered by Prof. Yao Qin’s research group, visited the laboratories of the Institute of Life Sciences, Jiangsu University Center for Physics and Chemistry, Jiangsu University Animal Experiment Center, and negotiated with leaders of the Institute of Life Sciences for more and better cooperation.
