Forum of Pearl S. Buck’s Study Held in JU

On the afternoon of September 10, the Forum of Pearl S. Buck’s Study was held in Jiangsu University. President Yuan Shouqi attended the opening ceremony and delivered the opening speech. The Forum welcomed guest specialists, professors and scholars from both China and abroad, including Hilary Spurling, a renowned British biographer, Stephen Rachman, a research fellow at the University of Michigan of the United States, Yao Junwei, a professor from Nanjing Normal University of China, Janet L. Mintzer, President & CEO of Pearl S. Buck International, Richard G. Neuheisel, President of Tempe Sister City Organization, Qian Yongbo, Honorary Chairman of Zhenjiang Famous City Institute, and Xu Xiaoxia, President of Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Research Association.
At the forum, Hilary Spurling, Stephen Rachman and Yao Junwei successively introduced the recent achievements in Pearl S. Buck’s study to teachers and students of Jiangsu University. After the thematic speeches were delivered, interviews were held and face-to-face exchanges made. Wu Qinghong, Director of Jiangsu University Pearl S. Buck Institute, outlined Pearl S. Buck’s study in Jiangsu University and her conception of promoting Pearl S. Buck’s study and spreading her spirit to the world.
The Forum was presided over by Ren Xiaofei, Vice Director of the International Office of Jiangsu University. More than 200 teachers and students from schools and colleges of Jiangsu University, especially from the Overseas College, attended the Forum, which is ranked among the most important activities of 2013 China’s Zhenjiang Pearl S. Buck Cultural Festival hosted between September 9-11 by Zhenjiang Municipal Government with the purpose of making the best of the cultural legacy of Pearl S. Buck, expanding the international exchange and cooperation, and promoting the internationalization of Zhenjiang City.
