“China Forum” Summit held at Confucius Institute of Graz

September 6-7, the 3rd China Forum was held in the Confucius Institute of Graz in Austria co-founded by Jiangsu University, where top German and Austrian specialists from different research fields gave 10 lectures or symposiums to the participants. The Sommerefektorium with a history of 884 years in Stift Rein was offered as the hosting place for “2013 China Forum”, which was presided over by Professor Anton Grabner-Haider at the University of Graz, head of Verein Sommerakademie.

At the forum, Chen Wanjie, Vice Dean of the Confucius Institute of Graz delivered a speech entitled “The Vibrant Chinese Economy”. Moreover, scholars from the University of Graz, Central European University at Budapest, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Austria, the University of Vienna, Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg, the College of Philosophy of Ludwig Maximilian Muenchen Unitversitaet, etc. gave talks on such topics as social contrast, political dialogues, knowledge transfer between China and Europe, outline of religions in contemporary China, traditional Chinese medicine, Chinese philosophy, Chinese art and culture, cross-cultural communication, etc. Their presentations aroused the strong interest in all aspects of the Chinese society of the Austrian intellectuals present at the forum, who from time to time applauded and raised questions.

According to informed sources, the collected reports given at the first and the second forum have already been published officially in the name of China-Forum 2011 & 2012 in both German and Chinese this year and will be on sale together with Spiel des Lebens (The Games of Life), an album of pictures from the Chinese and Western Portraits Joint Exhibition, and Ein Regenbogen kennt kein Heimweh (The Rainbow Is Not Homesick), a collection of interviews with “Chinese women in Graz”.
