Visit by Delegation headed by Rector of University of Graz, Austria

On April 10th, the delegation of University of Graz (UG), Austria, led by Prof. Christa Neuper, Rector of University of Graz (UG), paid a visit to Jiangsu University and attended the unveiling ceremony of Sino-German Language and Cultural Center. Prof. FAN Ming, JU’s Secretary of CPC Committee received the delegation. The President, Prof. YUAN Shouqi, conducted deep discussion with Prof. Neuper, reaching consensus on further cooperation in the field of teaching and scientific research with the substantive achievements in bilateral cooperation of Confucius Institute.
Other delegates accompanying Prof. Neuper were Prof. POLASCHEK Martin and Prof. RIEDLER Peter, UG’s Vice Rectors, Prof. UNGER-ULLMANN Daniela, Dean of Confucius Institute and etc.
During the welcoming ceremony, Prof. FAN Ming overviewed the outstanding achievements of the cooperation between JU and UG in running Confucius Institute jointly and promoting Chinese internationally, and congratulated on the co-establishment of Sino-German Language and Cultural Center.

Prof. YUAN and Prof. Neuper briefed major developments of the two universities and agreed that there is a great deal of similarities. Based on this consensus,both parties agreed to further cooperation concerning scholar and student exchange, credit recognition, mutual waiver of tuition, joint education of graduates and scientific research in the field of natural sciences, economics, management, languages and etc.

In addition, Prof. YUAN detailed the running mode of Sino-German Language and Cultural Center and expressed sincere gratitude to UG for the support on JU’s German language teaching and research.
Prof. YUAN and Prof. Neuper inaugurated Sino-German Language and Cultural Center together later, indicating the further extension of the tow schools’ cooperative fields.

During the visit, the delegation also had a tour around JU’s campus, especially the library, and was deeply impressed by JU’s overall layout and profound library resources.
UG was established in 1585 and ranked 2nd in Austria for its comprehensive strength. With a long history of over 400 years, it is profound in teaching resources and excellent in teaching quality. And it boasts of six Nobel winners.
In July, 2010, JU and UG got official approval from Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) to establish Confucius Institute at UG. After two years’ development, this Confucius Institute succeeds in offering Chinese courses for businessmen and children based on ordinary Chinese courses for the public, especially college students, and setting up Chinese teaching sites in five high schools in Austria.
