On August 5, Danijel Nikolić, Chairman of the Council of the Belt and Road Institute Belgrade, Serbia, visited Jiangsu University (JSU) for exchanges. Officials from the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province and the Foreign Affairs Office of Zhenjiang Municipality accompanied the visit. Chen Feng, Vice President of JSU, attended the meeting. Heads and staff of the Confucius Institute at the University of Niš in Serbia, the International Office of JSU, and the Construction Office of the “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory for Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment (Under Preparation) took part in the discussion, which was chaired by Cui Yong, Director of the International Office of JSU.

Participants watched a promotional video of the Confucius Institute jointly established by JSU and the University of Niš and heard a report on the progress of the China-Serbia Joint Laboratory. Danijel Nikolić introduced the positioning and priorities of the Belt and Road Institute Belgrade. He spoke highly of JSU’s practical achievements in China-Serbia cooperation and expressed a strong desire to expand all-round, in-depth cooperation in science, education and culture and to jointly set a new benchmark for China-Serbia cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Chen Feng said that JSU will draw on the Confucius Institute at the University of Niš to develop a distinctive “Chinese Language + Smart Agriculture” program to cultivate interdisciplinary talent for Serbia. Leveraging platforms such as the School of Food Science and Engineering and the “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory for Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment, JSU will advance the substantive development of the China-Serbia Joint Laboratory, translating consensus on a macro framework into concrete outcomes including joint research, co-authored academic papers and two-way exchanges of faculty and students. The two sides will set up a regular liaison mechanism to sustain cooperation.

Danijel Nikolić also visited the “Belt and Road” Joint Laboratory for Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment, the International Education Center and laboratories of the School of Food Science and Engineering.
Jelena Ećimović, a Serbian doctoral student visiting JSU under the China-Serbia Young Scholars Exchange Program, took part in the visit.
