On May 23, 2026, the China-Bosnia and Herzegovina Smart Agriculture Cooperation Seminar was successfully held at Jiangsu University (JSU) under the framework of China-CEEC cooperation and the Belt and Road Initiative. The event aims to promote the application of advanced agricultural technologies and equipment in Central and Eastern Europe, and support the modernization and upgrading of regional agriculture.
A delegation led by Marinko Čavara, Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, attended the seminar. Also present were officials from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Nanjing Institute of Agricultural Mechanization, leading agricultural machinery enterprises in Zhenjiang, and JSU leaders including Secretary of the CPC Committee Li Hongbo, President Zou Xiaobo, and Vice President Chen Feng.

Focusing on transnational agricultural technology cooperation, the seminar highlighted smart agricultural innovation, intelligent agricultural machinery research, and international industry-university-research integration. It built a high-level dialogue platform to expand China-Bosnia cooperation, share China's mature technological and industrial advantages and support the global application of agricultural scientific and technological achievements.

In his address, Li Hongbo pointed out that JSU has long been committed to serving the Belt and Road Initiative and deepening China-CEEC cooperation. Relying on its strong disciplines in agricultural engineering, JSU has maintained close ties with universities and research institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and other Central and Eastern European countries. In the future, JSU will further expand cooperation in international Chinese education, joint research, talent training and technology commercialization, and accelerate the construction of the China-Bosnia and Herzegovina Belt and Road Joint Laboratory (Preparatory) for Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment Demonstration Center.

Marinko Čavara spoke highly of JSU’s role as a bridge in China-Bosnia agricultural exchanges. He noted that agriculture in Bosnia is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading, with an urgent need for intelligent and modern equipment. This seminar meets the practical needs of both countries and provides an important channel for Bosnia and Herzegovina to introduce high-quality Chinese agricultural technologies. He expressed the willingness to deepen people-to-people and educational exchanges and build a cross-border smart agriculture cooperation system for mutual benefit.

Zou Xiaobo introduced JSU's cooperation history, achievements and future plans with Bosnia and Herzegovina. He said the university has established a multi-level cooperation system covering education, scientific research and industry, as well as regular communication mechanisms with relevant institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He hoped the two sides will take the seminar and the joint laboratory as opportunities to strengthen cooperation in intelligent agricultural machinery, precise planting and breeding, and agricultural product processing, accelerate the localization and adaptation of scientific and technological achievements, and elevate China-Bosnia practical cooperation.

During the seminar, leaders from both sides jointly launched the China-Bosnia and Herzegovina Belt and Road Joint Laboratory (Preparatory) for Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment Demonstration Center. As a key university project under China-CEEC cooperation, the center will carry out joint research on intelligent water and fertilizer management, mountain agricultural machinery, smart farms and agricultural product detection, share achievements and cultivate talents together. It will adapt technologies to local conditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, promote the export of Chinese agricultural equipment, and build an integrated industry-university-research-application platform.
JSU also released and demonstrated its self-developed "Leisi" Smart Agriculture Large Model at the seminar. Supported by agricultural knowledge, field data, intelligent decision-making and machinery operation capabilities, this model realizes the intelligent upgrading of the whole agricultural production chain.

Participants visited the International Exhibition of Smart Agriculture and Intelligent Equipment. JSU’s independent innovations, including the Leisi Cloud Platform, grape harvesting robot, plant protection UAV, non-destructive quality detector, new energy agricultural equipment and edible vegetable oil packaging film, attracted wide attention from the Bosnian delegation.

JSU proposed cooperation on cross-border research, joint talent training and industrialization. Bosnia and Herzegovina put forward demands for technology introduction, demonstration planting, and industrial cooperation. Agricultural enterprise representatives promised to provide advanced technologies and equipment to promote bilateral industrial development.
In the future, JSU will continue to deepen China-CEEC agricultural cooperation, promote the demonstration, transformation, and overseas industrialization of smart agricultural technologies through the joint laboratory platform, strengthen talent exchanges and build an efficient agricultural technology cooperation community. The university will keep contributing to global green and sustainable agricultural development and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
