From June 23 to 28, Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu University (JSU) Committee Li Hongbo led a delegation to visit Greece and Serbia. Closely centering on the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the opening up deployment of Jiangsu Province, the delegation carried out a series of high-level, multi field science and technology, talent and education exchange activities, with fruitful results, and effectively enhanced the international influence of JSU.
On June 23, the delegation visited the University of Patras in Greece and held talks with President Christos Bouras and Vice President for Academic and International Affairs Dionisius Mantzavinos. The two sides officially signed a MOU for cooperation, committed to creating the "the Belt and Road" international joint laboratory on smart agricultural technology and equipment , and simultaneously launched student exchange and overseas branch program, marking a new stage of deep integration of China-Greece university cooperation. On that day, the delegation also visited the historic Athens Academy of Sciences in Greece, and warmly welcomed by member of the National Academy of Engineering of United States, member of the Greek Academy of Sciences, and professor of chemical engineering of National Technical University of Athens in Greece Doros Nicolas Theodorou. Both parties have reached a consensus on exploring channels for technological cooperation, promoting technical exchanges and scholarly visit between JSU and the Athens Academy of Sciences in Greece.
On June 24, the delegation participated in the Jiangsu-Greece Industry-University-Research Cooperation Exchange Conference at the National Technical University of Athens in Greece. The Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee Xin Changxing, the Governor of Attica Province in Greece Nikos Hardalias, and the Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu attended the meeting. More than 160 representatives from the governments, universities, research institutions, and enterprises from China and Greece attended the conference. The conference focused on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, green energy, and ocean engineering, and explored in depth the potential for cooperation between China and Greece in technological innovation and achievement transformation. It actively expanded new paths for the integration of industry, academia, and research development between the two sides. The delegation held discussion with President of Athens National University of Technology Ioannis K. Chatjigeorgiou, and director of the board of directors of Athens National University of Technology Sergios Theodoridis, on the cooperation on the "the Belt and Road" smart agricultural technology and equipment related cooperation, introduced the technological achievements of JSU to Greek high-tech parks, colleges and universities, and scientific and technological enterprises, and promoted practical docking. The delegation also discussed with Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Greece Wang Jin, and representative of Aristotle University Tzouvelekas Manolis about cooperation on technology transfer and student mobility projects.
On June 25, the delegation visited Novi Sad Science and Technology Park and jointly held the launching ceremony of 2025 Jiangsu-CEEC Full Process Mechanization and Food Processing Traning Program-Jiangsu “Small yet Smart” Project. Secretary Li Hongbo, Deputy Director of the Economic and Tourism Department of Vojvodina Province of Serbia Pamir Toth, President of Novi Sad University Dejan Matic attended the event. At the same time, a signing ceremony was held for the Joint Laboratory of High Value Utilization and Management of Agricultural and Food Waste between JSU and Novi Sad University. The delegation visited Lianbo Electronics Serbia Co., Ltd. for international scientific research cooperation and talent cultivation cooperation negotiations. On the same day, the delegation also participated in the China (Jiangsu) - Serbia Economic and Trade Cooperation Exchange Conference, attended by the Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee Xin Changxing, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Adrijana Mesarović, and Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming. In his speech, Secretary Xing Changxin particularly affirmed the fruitful international scientific and technological cooperation between JSU and Novi Sad University, as well as the effective international cultural exchange and talent cultivation with University of Niš.
On June 26, the delegation and Eastern European universities jointly held a seminar on the construction of modular research rooms for the China (Jiangsu) - Bosnia and Herzegovina (Central and Eastern Europe) Smart Agricultural Technology and Equipment "the Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory, and carried out partnership match making technology release with universities, institutions and enterprises in Central and Eastern Europe. Secretary Li Hongbo, President of East Sarajevo University in Bosnia and Herzegovina Milan Kulic, President of Novi Sad University in Serbia Dejan Madi ć, President of University of Niš in Serbia Jovan Stepanović, Vice President of Banja Luka University in Bosnia and Herzegovina Milica Balaban, as well as General Manager of Jiangsu Lianbo Precision Technology Co., Ltd. Xiao Qingpeng, and General Manager of Zhenjiang Liuhengji Food Co., Ltd. Liu Chaojun , jointly signed agreement on the construction of the China and Central-and-Eastern Europe Smart Agriculture and Agricultural Product Processing Modular Research Laboratory, marking a new stage of regional agricultural technology cooperation. On that day, the delegation also visited the University of Belgrade.
On June 27, the delegation held talks with President of University of Niš Jovan Stepanović, Vice President of University of Niš Dragan Antić, Former Vice President of University of Niš Vesna Lopičić and others, and reached consensus on further expanding international scientific and technological cooperation, the China Europe Talent and Student Mobility Assistance Program. The delegation held the "Jiang University Open Day" at the University of Niš. Secretary Li Hongbo delivered a speech, and Dean of the School of Engineering of University of Niš Dragiša Savić, and Dean of the School of Electronic Engineering of University of Niš Vladimir Ćirić, introduced the cooperation between two universities. Director of International Office of JSU Cui Yong, Director of the Science and Technology Department of JSU Lu Jinzhong, and Director of the Personnel Department of JSU Wang Fei, respectively introduced the overall situation, scientific research advantages and resources, and overseas talent recruitment policies of JSU, continuously extending invitations to outstanding talents in Central and Eastern Europe. The delegation also listened to the work report of the Confucius Institute jointly established with University of Niš, had cordial exchanges with the teachers and students of the Confucius Institute. The delegation had academic exchanges with the School of Electronic Engineering of University of Niš to discuss the deepening path of teacher-student exchanges and cooperation in artificial intelligence and electronic power research.
This visit fully reflects the responsibility of JSU to actively engage in the national opening-up landscape and actively serve local economic and social development. It significantly enhances the JSU's reputation and influence in Central-and-Eastern Europe, and opens up broad prospects for future international exchanges and cooperation in deeper and wider fields.
