Recently, the esteemed international journal “Argumentation” has officially published a special issue (2025, issue 2) edited by Dean of Overseas Educational College Prof. Wu Peng.

Titled “The Latest Developments in Asian Argumentation Studies,” this special issue comprises one editorial introduction and seven original research papers. It covers multiple key domains in argumentation theory, comprehensively presenting the latest achievements and academic frontiers in Asian argumentation research. Eleven Asian scholars of argumentation theory explored the cultural uniqueness, developmental trajectories, and growth potential of Asian argumentative thought from diverse perspectives. Their contributions include macro-scale constructions of theoretical frameworks in Asia, micro-level analyses of contemporary argumentative phenomena in specific Asian countries; modern interpretations of traditional argumentative wisdom, and innovative investigations into emerging forms of argumentation in the new media era. Yan Linqiong, our faculty member from School of Foreign Languages, also published an original research paper in this issue.
Published by Springer, since its inception in 1987, Argumentation serves as the official journal of the International Society for the Study of Argumentation (ISSA). It encompasses research outcomes across fields such as natural reasoning, persuasion, linguistics, communication, discourse studies, pragmatics, psychology, philosophy, logic, history, and law. This special issue marks the first time in over forty years since its founding that the journal has focused intently on the Asian argumentation community, showcasing the profound cultural heritage of Asian argumentative thought. It also highlights the leading position of our university's argumentation research team in advancing Asian argumentation studies.
