From Dec. 15 to 23, Secretary of the CPC Jiangsu University (JSU) Committee Li Hongbo led a delegation to visit partner universities in the United States and Cuba, meet with alumni, visit Chinese overseas institutions.
During their stay at Wayne State University, Unitied States, Sr Vice Provost Ahmad M. Ezzeddine and Associate Vice President Xiu Huajing met the delegation. Sr Vice Provost Ahmad M. Ezzeddine introduced the current situation and foreign cooperation of Wayne State University to the delegation, and hoped that the two universities would further expand cooperation in the fields of joint student training and faculty visits. Secretary Li Hongbo gave a detailed introduction to the latest development of JSU and the cooperation with Wayne State University, and proposed the idea of further strengthening cooperation between the two universities in talent cultivation and scientific research.
The delegation had in-depth talks with Associate Vice President Xiu Huajing, Dean of College of Engineering Ali Abolmaali, DeVlieg Professor and Chair of Mechanical Engineering of College of Engineering Nabil Chalhoub, Professor and Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering of College of Engineering Shawn McElmurry. Ali Abolmaali proposed the "4+0" enrollment and training program and preferential policies for JSU students.
The delegation also met with Dean of Mike Ilitch School of Business Virginia Franke Kleist, and reached preliminary intentions on joint training of students in the fields of management and finance.
During their stay in the United States, the delegation also visited the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in New York, and Education Counsellor Yu Yougen met with the delegation. Secretary Li Hongbo introduced the current situation and development of JSU, and focused on the educational exchange and cooperation between JSU and American universities. Yu Yougen highly affirmed and expressed full support for JSU to further expand cooperation with universities in the United States.
At Acadia University, President and Vice-Chancellor of Acadia University Dr. Jeff Hennessy met the delegation. He introduced the university's history and achievements in talent cultivation and also highly praised the cooperative training program with JSU and signed a MOU between the two universities to further expand their cooperative majors. The delegation also participated in the alumni return event of the Jiangsu University Arcadia Cooperation Project. Secretary Li Hongbo congratulated the alumni on their development and encouraged the students of the project to study hard, achieve their personal growth goals, and make greater contributions to the country after returning to China.
At Universidad de La Habana, Cuba, Vice President Dionisio Silva and representatives from the International Office, Development Office, and other units met the delegation. Both parties reviewed the cooperation between the two universities since the signing of the MOU, further explored the direction of future cooperation, and reached a cooperation intention on conducting collaborative research in the fields of solar energy, medicine, and big data. At the same time, the both parties reached an agreement on short-term exchange visits for students.
This visit has deepened the mutual understanding between JSU and partner universities in the United States and Cuba, deepened the friendship between the two sides, and further expanded the international influence of JSU.
