On Nov. 11, Shanghai Ranking’s 2024 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was officially released. Jiangsu University (JSU) has a total of 26 disciplines on the list, tied for 34th place among Chinese mainland universities in terms of the total number of disciplines on the list, an increase of 4 places compared to last year's ranking.
Among the 26 disciplines on the list, 2 disciplines, Ship and Ocean Engineering and Business Administration, made their debut on the list. In addition, JSU has made new breakthroughs in discipline rankings, with 6 disciplines entering the top 50 in the world, an increase of 2 from last year; 8 disciplines have entered the top 100 in the world, an increase of one from last year.
The 2024 ARWU is based on Web of Science and InCites databases. It covers 55 disciplines, including science, engineering, life science, medicine and social sciences. The rankings are for universities that have published a certain number of papers in a particular discipline between 2019 and 2023. The rankings measure the academic competitiveness of universities around the world in a variety of disciplines using nine internationally comparable objective indicators across five modules.
