The 30th Tri-U International Joint Seminar & Symposium (Tri-U IJSS) was held at Jiangsu University (JSU) from November 10 to 15. The theme for this year’s event was “Population, Food, Energy, Environment, AI and the sustainable development of human society”. About 110 participants of 7 universities from China, Thailand, Japan and Indonesia attended the Tri-U IJSS.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of Tri-U IJSS. Leaders from domestic and foreign universities such as Mie University (MU), Japan, Chiang Mai University (CMU), Thailand, and Guangxi University (GU) led teams to attend Tri-U IJSS, celebrating the achievements of the past 30 years and jointly discussing future development visions.

Prince of Thailand Pramoj Supab, Vice President of the China Europe America Alumni Association and President of the China Education International Exchange Association Liu Limin, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in China Vinod Ahuja, and President of CMU Prof. Pongruk Sribanditmongkol sent video speeches to Tri-U IJSS. Mayor of Tsu City, Japan Yasuyuki Maeba sent the congratulatory letter to Tri-U IJSS.
The 30th Tri-U IJSS Anniversary Award Ceremony was held at the opening ceremony. Prof. Sun Jianzhong of Jsu, Prof. Guo Yulu of GU, and Prof. Shinichi Shoji of MU, Prof. Ir. Sri Endah Agustina of IPB and Prof. Nat Vorayosof CMU were awarded the Tri-U (1994-2024) Development Contribution Awards. Prof. Yuan Shouqi of JSU, Prof. Wang Xiulunof MU, and Prof. Nobutaka Ito of CMU were awarded the Tri-U (1994-2024) Outstanding Contribution Awards. Jiangsu University, Chiang Mai University, and Mie University were awarded the Tri-U (1994-2024) Excellent Organization Awards.
After the opening ceremony, Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Prof. Satoshi Kaneco and Prof. Todsaporn Pichaiya made the plenary speeches, which provided in-depth insights and inspiration for the attendees.
Focused on the 5 themes, teachers and students representatives participated in academic seminars and cultural exchange activities such as Parallel Oral Presentation Session and workshop, fully demonstrated scientific research achievements, promoting exchanges, deepening mutual learning and enhancing understanding among civilizations. 5 student representatives, i.e. Jiang Yuhui, Nimra Shabir Ahmad Khan and Ran Jiali from School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, Huang Wei from Institute for Energy Research, and Suber Abdi Mohamed from School of Medicine won the Best Presenter Awards. 2 student representatives, i.e. Huang Wei from Institute for Energy Research and Hu Jiale from School of Physics and Electronic Engineering won the workshop. 2 student representatives, i.e. Nimra Shabir Ahmad Khan from School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering and Suber Abdi Mohamed from School of Medicine won the Founder Awards.
The Tri-U IJSS has been held by JSU, Mie University, Chiang Mai University, Bogor Agricultural University, Guangxi University and Maejo University in turn since 1994, and these 6 universities have held 29 consecutive sessions. Over the past 30 years, participating student and staff have greatly enhanced their international competence through the platform of the Tri-U IJSS, which has had a positive impact on their personal research ability and career development.
