From August 20 to 25, the 2024 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) opened in Gui’an New Area, Guiyang, under the theme “Strengthening Education Cooperation and People-to-people Exchanges for a Brighter Shared Future”.
As one of the first batch of universities to participate in the China-ASEAN Thousand Schools Cooperation Programme, President of JSU Prof. Xing Weihong attedned the China-ASEAN Thousand Schools Hands Together Conference at the 2024 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week and participated in the signing ceremony under this program.
The 6th Forum on China-Thailand Higher Education Cooperation, jointly organized by JSU and the Secretariat of Alliance of China-Thailand Universities (ACTU), Guizhou University and hosted by Guizhou University and Guiyang College was held on August 23. Under the theme “Deepening High-quality Cooperation of Universities for Joint Cultivation of International Talents”, nearly 200 government officials, representatives from the education sector, and young students from China and Thailand gathered together to discuss cooperation and exchanges in the field of higher education between the two countries.
At the opening ceremony of the forum, Secretary General of the China Education International Exchange Association Yang Jun, Minister Counsellor for Science and Technology of Embassy of Thailand in China Chen Shanyi, Representative of the Chinese Co-Chair of ACTU and Vice President of JSU Prof. Li Hong, and Chairman of the Thai Joint Chairman of ACTU and President of Siam University Dr. Pornchai Mongkhonvanit delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Secretary-General of ACTU E Xuewen.
During the MOU Signing Ceremony of ACTU Member Institutions, JSU signed the MOU with Kasetsart University, Thailand, which covering inter-school exchanges, talent training, scientific research, platform construction and other fields.
Additionally, the ACTU and and the East-West International Education Research Institute jointly launched the "Sino-Thai University Student Exchange Program". The program will assist 1,000 Chinese and Thai university students to study for a semester of credit courses at universities in each other's countries every year, aiming to build a platform for young students from China and Thailand to exchange and learn from each other and grow together.
At the University Presidents’ Forum, Vice President Li Hong delivered a speech titled Enhancing Collaboration and Jointly Shaping the Future: Exploring and Forecasting the Evolution of Sino-Thai University Partnerships, sharing the successful experiences of JSU’s collaboration with Thai universities. She proposed new ideas for future cooperation, including the joint establishment of laboratories, the development of dual-degree programs, and the promotion of industry-teaching-research collaboration.
At the closing ceremony, Former Executive Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Organizing Committee of CAECW Liu Baoli delivered the concluding speech. He spoke highly of the achievements of this forum, and proposed to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand as an opportunity to establish a long-term cooperation mechanism, continue the traditional friendship, focus on common development, and deepen professional exchanges in high-quality areas related to the Belt and Road Initiative. He proposed to build more channels and platforms to create more favorable conditions for youth exchanges between China and Thailand, so that young students can increase their knowledge, enhance friendship through cooperation, and promote peace and development through understanding.
The participants unanimously agreed that he 6th Forum on China-Thailand Higher Education Cooperation has reached multiple cooperation consensuses, further enhancing mutual understanding and promoting cooperation in higher education between China and Thailand. In 2025, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand will be celebrated, and the ACTU will continue to play a new and greater role in higher education between the two countries.
