Recently, Shanghai Ranking’s 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) was officially released. The ranking shows the world’s leading 1000 research universities, with 191 universities from Chinese mainland.
Jiangsu University (JSU) is ranked among the top 300 universities in the world, ranking 33-50 among universities in mainland China and 4-6 among universities in Jiangsu Province.
First published in 2003, ARWU is the first comprehensive university ranking in the world.
Known for its objective, transparent and stable evaluation system, ARWU is based on internationally comparable objective indicators and third-party data, including the numbers of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, highly cited researchers, articles published in journals of Nature and Science, articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded (SCIE) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), and per capita performance of a university.
As one of the most influential and authoritative university rankings in the world, ARWU has been widely reported and cited. Many governments and universities use it as a criterion to formulate strategic goals and development plans, and take various initiatives to improve the international influence of their own universities.
