Vice President Chen Long Heads Delegation to visit Austria and UK

From Nov. 27th to Dec. 4th, 2014, Vice President Prof. Chen Long headed a delegation to visit University of Graz and AVL List GmbH, Austria, as well as University of Derby and University of Leeds, UK.

University of Graz was founded in 1585, having 6 Nobel Prize laureates in the schooling history. In the past 4 years, JU’S Confucius Institute at Graz has held a series of colorful activities to introduce and promote Chinese culture to all circles of Austria. On the morning of Nov. 28th, the council meeting of Confucius Institute was held to discuss the further development.

AVL List GmbH is the world's largest independent company for the development of power train systems with internal combustion engines as well as instrumentation and test systems. On the afternoon of Nov. 28th, the delegation visited the laboratory, had a meeting with the engineers, which helped to improve the cooperation between JU and AVL in the field of automobile and internal combustion engine.

University of Derby is a public university which can trace its history back to 1851 and ranks Top 10 in the latest management and teaching quality evaluation by UK government. On the morning of Dec. 1st, the delegation conducted exchanges with the university’s Vice Chancellor and representatives from relevant schools and departments, reaching consensus on the joint education of high-level talents, cooperation of scientific research and sharing of talents.

University of Leeds is globally ranked 97th in the 2014 QS World University Rankings. The School of Food Science and Nutrition is ranked 1st in food science field of UK. Since 2010, School of Food and Biological Engineering of JU started the international experimental class on food science and engineering with University of Leeds. At present, there are 22 students of JU studying at University of Leeds, 8 of which are working on their master degrees. On the morning of Dec. 2nd, the delegation discussed with representatives of the university on the status and developing potential of the international experimental class and reached the agreement on expanding the cooperation field to environment, chemistry, bioscience and other disciplines. After that, the delegation also held talks with our students studying there.
