8th International Conference on Molecular Imprinting held in JSU

2014-09-19

September 19-21, the 8th International Conference on Molecular Imprinting (MIP2014) sponsored by the Society for Molecular Imprinting was held in Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, China. The Conference thought highly of by both Chinese and international experts in the field of molecular imprinting was attended by more than 170 scientists from over 20 countries including China, America, Britain, France, and Australia, who would carry out discussions and exchanges on the latest development in the technology of molecular imprinting.

The opening ceremony was held on September 19, presided over by Prof. Li Songjun at Jiangsu University. At the ceremony, President Yuan Shouqi of Jiangsu University made a heartfelt speech and declared the opening of the conference after Vice President Chen Xiaonong of Jiangsu University introduced the preparatory work done for the MIP2014. Speeches were made at the opening ceremony respectively by such world-renown scientists in the field of molecular imprinting as Klaus Mosbach, one of the founders of molecular imprinting technology, Michael J. Whitcomb, President of the Society for Molecular Imprinting, Karsten Haupt, Vice President of the Society for Molecular Imprinting, Börje Sellergren, Sergey Piletsky, Deputy Secretary General of the International Union of Advanced Materials, and Zhang Yukui, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Besides the 7 presentations specially arranged, more than 80 presentations or poster presentations were made by participants in parallel sessions to profoundly exchange their ideas on the technology of molecular imprinting.

Also at the opening ceremony, President Yuan Shouqi of Jiangsu University granted the letter of appointment to Klaus Mosbach at Lund University of Sweden, Karsten Haupt at University of Science of Compiègne of France, Börje Sellergren at Malmö University of Sweden, Zhang Yukui, Academician at Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Lei Ye at Lund University of Sweden to hire them as Guest Professor of Jiangsu University and pinned the school badge on them personally.

The closing ceremony was held on September 21 and the participants thought highly of the work done by the Preparatory Committee of the MIP2014 and those volunteers. According to the Plenary Session of the Society for Molecular Imprinting, “the MIP2014 is the second largest conference in history and the best organized and orderly one.” The MIP Conference had been respectively held in Germany, Cardiff, Britain, Louisiana, America, and Paris, France, etc. And this is the first time that the MIP has been held in China.

The Research Team headed by Prof. Li Songjun is one of the earliest scientific teams in China devoted to the study on molecular imprinting. In the past 10 years, the team members have made breakthroughs and internationally recognized achievements in smart self-healing polymer, tandem catalytic reaction, nano reactor, etc. in the field of molecular imprinting. At the Conference, Prof. Li Songjun introduced the latest achievements made by scientists in Jiangsu University in the field of molecular imprinting, and his presentation aroused the interest of the participants and was well applauded by them.

Reporters from Science and Technology Daily, China News Agency, China Jiangsu Net, Jiangsu Economy Daily, Jiangsu Science and Technology Daily, etc. interviewed the participants and reported all aspects of the Conference.
