September 13, the appointment ceremony of Prof. Stephen W. Searcy, Dean of the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Texas A&M University of the United States as Guest Profess of Jiangsu University was held in the 3rd Lecture of the International Meeting Center. Vice President Chen Long of Jiangsu University attended the ceremony, granting the letter of appointment to him and pinned the school badge on him. Then Prof. Stephen W. Searcy gave an academic presentation entitled “UAS (unmanned aircraft systems) opportunities and challenges in agriculture”.

The presentation and ceremony was presided over by Prof. Mao Hanping, Dean of the Agricultural Equipment & Engineering Institute and attended by faculties and students from the Agricultural Equipment & Engineering Institute, the Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology, and the School of Electrical & Information Engineering.

Prof. Stephen W. Searcy was invited to visit Jiangsu University by the Synergistic Center of Modern Agricultural Equipment and Technology. During his stay in Jiangsu University, he went into profound discussions with the Office of Science and Technology, the International Office, the Agricultural Equipment & Engineering Institute and the Overseas Education College on such issues as scientific cooperation, team construction, talent cultivation, and academic exchange. A preliminary agreement on cooperation was reached or signed by both parties on certain issues.

Texas A&M University is one of the American colleges and universities that have the largest campus and it tops the American colleges and universities in the comprehensive strength of its discipline of agricultural engineering. Prof. Stephen W. Searcy is an outstanding scientist in the discipline of agricultural engineering in the US, whose main research orientations are smart agricultural equipment and biofuels. He was once the President of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and is currently member of the editorial board of such top periodicals as ASABE, Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, Precision Agriculture.
