Institute of Life Sciences met Its First Overseas Student

On August 29th, 2014, Biological Discipline of Institute of Life Sciences met its first overseas graduate student called Ullah Jawad from Pakistan.

It’s the first time for Jawad to come to China at his 23 years old. In order to help Jawad to arrive at Jiangsu University safely, international secretary of Institute of Life Sciences , Ms. Chunxia, Zhang emailed him about the riding routes and detailed address both in English and Chinese ahead of time, arranged his temporary accommodation before the registration by communicating with Overseas Education College, and contacted his tutor Huayou Chen,associate professor, talking about the implementation of specific details. Jawad successfully reached Jiangsu University on the evening of 29th. On the early morning of 30th, Ms. Zhang came to the apartment to see Jawad with the school’s condolences, told him the enrollment issues, and gave him some warm hints of his coming life as well.

Rui Tian, Xuehai Zhou, Qing Zhang and other graduate students from Institute of Life Sciences helped to greet Jawad. They accompanied him for the arrangements of meals and accommodation. Also, they helped him to get familiar with the lab and compus, and change his phone card, including the construction of the contact persons. With the enthusiastic help of dormitory administrator of Residence Oltremare, Jawad soon found many Pakistan students, and quickly adapted to the unfamiliar environment.

On the afternoon of September 8th, Jawad was invited to join the Mid Autumn Festival Tea Party with the other Chinese new graduate students. He was very happy in China, and felt the brotherhood of China and Pakistan, Jawad said.
