Recently, Clarivate released the latest Essential Science Indicators (ESI) data, with a total of 8,917 research institutions in the world on the list, including 432 Chinese mainland universities. The data shows that the Immunology of Jiangsu University (JSU) entered the top 1% of ESI global ranking for the first time. Up to now, the number of disciplines of JSU entering the top 1% of ESI global ranking has reached 14, of which three disciplines, namely Engineering, Chemistry and Agricultural Science, ranked in the top 1‰.

JSU stands 444th in the international ranking according to the data, up 5 places from September. It is ranked 42nd among Chinese mainland universities. The discipline of Immunology was authorized to offer a master's program in 2006, and has formed initial characteristics in basic research of cellular immunology, such as tumor immunity and tumor metabolism, and endoplasmic reticulum stress regulation, as well as clinical translational research of immune cell therapy for tumors. The researchers in the discipline have published research papers in top journals, such as Adv. Sci., Biomaterials, J. Hematol. Oncol. Biomaterials, J. Hematol. Oncol., Am. J. Pathol., J. Immunol. and Eur. J. Immunol. Moreover, some of the research findings have been translated to clinical treatment.

ESI is a basic analysis and evaluation tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking scientific trends. It is a measurement and analytical database based on more than 10 million records of over 12,000 academic journals across the world included in the Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI). At present, ESI has become one of the most important evaluation indexes for evaluating the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions, countries and regions worldwide.
