From December 1 to 4, 2023 "CSC Alumni Forum" & JSU’s 15th Jinshan High-Level Academic Forum cosponsored by China Scholarship Council (CSC) and Jiangsu University (JSU) were held. 159 outstanding young and middle-aged talents from famous Chinese and international universities were invited to participate in the forum online or offline, and 71 of them were CSC alumni.
On the morning of Dec. 2, the opening ceremony was held at JSU. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Chen Xuegeng, Secretary General of the Chinese Scholarship Council Sheng Jianxue, Deputy Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee Pan Man, Secretary of the CPC JSU Committee Li Hongbo, President of JSU Xing Weihong, Vice President of JSU Wang Jingquan, Director of Organization Department Yang Jingjiang, Director of the Law and Comprehensive Affairs Department of the CSC Li Xin, and more than 300 participants from relevant departments attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was host by Director of High-level Talents Office Huang Ting.
At the opening ceremony, Secretary Li Hongbo said that JSU is implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instruction and the goals of the Fifth JSU Party Congress in a comprehensive way, and has achieved remarkable results in attracting talents, cultivating talents, employing talents and retaining talents, providing strong talent and intellectual support for the rapid development of JSU. He expressed the hope that the young talents would take this forum as an opportunity to fully understand JSU's determination and sincerity to recognize talents, love talents, employ talents, accommodate talents and gather talents. He hoped that talents could develop and advance together with JSU and contribute to realizing the goals of becoming the first-class discipline and university and building JSU into a high-level university with distinctive characteristics.
Pan Man said that JSU cherishes a long history of university education and has made great contribution. JSU takes the talents as a significant key to developing university characteristics. Pan Man hoped that JSU could take the initiative to act as a good example, stimulate a stronger sense of responsibility for mission, forge a more advanced innovation ability and form a higher level of contribution on development. JSU should deeply integrate the exploitation of talent resources into the economic and social development of Jiangsu province and even of China. Besides, it ought to attract more outstanding talents with a more open mind, a more positive attitude as well as a more excellent condition, and then promote the development of JSU.
Sheng Jianxue introduced the relevant work of CSC in recent years. As a co-sponsor of the forum, he hoped that all the invited talents could have full communication, show what they have learned and make progress together. Besides, he hoped the talents could live up to the expectations of the country for the high-level scholars who have enjoyed a government funded overseas study, make further achievements in morality education and self-reliance and self-improvement in science and technology, so as to contribute to building a modern socialist country in all respects and realizing the dream of Chinese nation’s rejuvenation.
President Xing Weihong introduced JSU from several aspects, including the university overview, talent cultivation, discipline construction, faculty, scientific research, international exchange, characteristic development and development vision. She said that JSU insists on the Service and Development concept and makes an effort to offer the first-class talents for building a modern socialist country in all respects under the guidance of the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping. President Xing Weihong also expected that more high-level talents could come to JSU to create the "Double First-class" and construct a high-level university with distinctive characteristics together.
Vice President Wang Jingquan pronounced the talent policy of JSU from three aspects: "Talents-strengthen-university strategy" "Platforms for attracting and cultivating talents" and "Friendly atmosphere for talent development". He pointed out that JSU owns the platforms for talents’ development and the environment for talents’ high-quality life. He hoped that more high-level talents from home and abroad can come to JSU for mutual development and win-win.
Dean of the School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering Pan Jianming, and Dean of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering Ding Shihong, shared their experiences of working and living in JSU, as well as their achievements. They affirmed the conditions and situations of JSU and called for more talents to come to JSU and actively contribute to developing its disciplines.
Academician Chen Xuegeng made a speech with the title of "Technological innovation—promote the level of farming mechanization in hilly and mountain areas in China" . He introduced how to continuously promote the level of farming mechanization in hilly and mountain areas in China with the scientific and technological innovation from four aspects: the strategic importance of the farming mechanization in hilly and mountain areas in China farming mechanization, the current situation of farming mechanization in hilly and mountain areas in China, experiences from Japan, South Korea and China and the development goal of the farming mechanization in hilly and mountain areas in China. Chen's report was presided over by Jia Weidong, Dean of the School of Agricultural Engineering.
In the afternoon, the invited talents were divided into four groups to discuss their own personal experiences, academic achievements, planning researches after joining JSU and other aspects.
In the morning of December 3, respectively led by School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Materials Science and Engineering, School of Medicine, School of Physics and Electronic Engineering and School of Management, more than twenty schools organized academic activities at five venues. In the afternoon, the first salon for young academics about disciplinary integration was successfully held.
During the forum, the invited talents also visited the History Museum and the Exhibition Hall for China’s Agricultural Machinery Culture.
Jinshan High-level Academic Forum is an important activity of JSU for "searching talents actively and selecting talents precisely" and has been held for 15 years. Over 1,700 excellent young talents at home and abroad have participated and 354 high-level talents have been employed, 10% of whom have become National Excellent Youths, Distinguished Professors in Jiangsu Province and other important talents.
