Celebration of Confucius Institute Day
September 27, 2014

On Sept. 27, the 10th Anniversary of Confucius Institute was held by Graz Confucius Institute, co-established by Jiangsu University and Graz University with a series of celebration activities. Mr. Andreas Molnar, Spokesman of Graz City and Mr. Peter Riedler, Vice Rector of Graz University attended the activities.

The celebrations began with the traditional show of Chinese Lion Dance. Then artists from Central Conservatory of Music presented typical Chinese and western musical works, including Hunters’ Chorus by means of Chinese and western instrumental ensemble, conveying Chinese people’s friendliness towards Austria.

During the process of music performance, two outstanding young painters from Research Center of Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection, Central Conservatory of Music displayed an array of gorgeous grotto paintings of ancient musical performance along China’s Silk Road.

There were also cultural experiencing stops, including Chinese speaking, character writing, face painting, paper cutting, tea tasting, dumpling making, etc. These Chinese styled activities attracted enthusiastic Graz citizens, who got vivid and visual feelings of Chinese culture.

Mr. Zhuang Lin, a famous calligrapher and Mr. Wei Zichu, an artist of traditional Chinese painting, also showed up to interact and exchange with local fans of Chinese culture through live performance, which helped Graz citizens to understand Chinese culture.

The celebration proved again Chinese and western cultures share a lot in common. The Old Silk Road helped to pave the path for Chinese and western culture exchange. Confucius Institute and its cultural promotion activities are striving to push forward the cross cultural exchange further and better.
