On September 18^th, the 2018 freshman opening ceremony was held. Chairman of University Committee, Prof. Yuan  Shouqi, attended the ceremony and conferred Honorary Certificates to excellent undergraduate freshman representatives. The President, Prof. Yan Xiaohong, made a speech entitled "Opening the Self" and presented gifts for them.

At the ceremony, President Prof. Yan expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to freshmen on behalf of the teachers and students of JSU. Teacher representative, Prof. Wang Junfeng from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Old students’ representative, President of the Student Union, Zhang Xuebing from School of Medical; graduate student representative, Li Xingjun from School of Automotive and Traffic Engineering; undergraduate freshmen representative, Liu Yuxin From School of Liberal Arts, freshmen overseas students’ representative from the Overseas Educational College Chuulu spoke separately. Vice President Prof. Mei Qiang read out the "Decision on Honoring 2018 Excellent Undergraduate Freshmen".

Finally, President Prof. Yan presented the JSU’s alumnus Li Lanqing's book "Spreading - the Year of the National Gate" to freshmen. He hopes that the students will read it carefully, keep in mind the history, inherit the spirit of "breakthrough" of the ancestors " dare to be the first in the world", work hard, and contribute to the realization of the great Chinese dream.
