Brief Introduction

Maozhen Li is a Professor in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at Brunel University London, UK. His research interests include High Performance Computing (HPC) including grid computing and cloud computing, big data analytics and intelligent systems. He has over 120 research publications including 4 books. He is on editorial board of a number of journals including journal of Cloud Computing, Computing and Informatics. He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society.

This lecture starts with a brief introduction to computing paradigms from parallel computing to cloud computing. It then focuses on MapReduce, a major computing model in support of data intensive applications. Some research works on MapReduce are introduced in this lectureand parallel machine learning techniques based on MapReduce are presented. Finally, this lecture concludes with some considerations in parallel program design.
