On August 23, the national final of the 9th National Statistical Modeling Competition for University Students was held in Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics. Under the guidance of Assoc Prof. Wang Chaojie from School of Mathematical Sciences of Jiangsu University (JSU), the undergraduate team which composed of Diao Shuxin and Fu Ziqi from School of Mathematical Sciences of JSU and Wang Shiqi from School of Teacher Education of JSU, won a first prize of the undergraduate groups, which is a breakthrough for JSU in this competition.
Jointly held by the Statistical Education Society of China, the Education Steering Committee for Statistics in Higher Education Institutions of the Chinese Ministry of Education, and the National MAS Education Steering Committee, the National Statistical Modeling Competition for University Students aimed to cultivate a favorable atmosphere for the study of statistics and applied statistics among university students, arouse general concern on hot and difficult issues in economic and social development, and adapt to the needs of talents training of universities and statistical departments in the era of big data. Annually held since the 7th Competition, it has become the most influential competition of statistics in China covering the largest number of majors with the largest number of participants.This year’s competition has attracted 11213 teams from 613 universities and colleges across China since the launch of the competition in February this year, with the total number of participants reaching 33600. A total of 100 teams were shortlisted for the defense competition of the finals to compete for the first prizes after the provincial competition selection in 27 provinces, the national preliminary correspondence review and the on-site second-round review. After concerted efforts and careful preparation, JSU team submitted the paper entitled An Analysis of the Temporal-spatial Evolution of Agricultural Green and Low-carbon Development Level and Its Influencing Factors from the Perspective of Digital Inclusive Finance, standing out and highly recognized by on-site experts during the final competition, which demonstrated the high quality of the students from JSU.This competition helps arouse the students’ enthusiasm and potential for learning statistical knowledge and the application of statistical skills, and further improves their ability to process data using statistical methods and computer technology. Besides, a few more teams from JSU won provincial or and national prizes, fully demonstrating our students’ solid theoretical foundation and great practical skills.
