On May 5th, 2012, final of the first “Chinese Bridge”--Chinese Proficiency Competition for Overseas Students of Jiangsu University was held with a great success at the Staff Recreation Centre on campus. Finals was hosted by the Overseas Education College (OEC)and took the pleasure to invite the following authorities as the judges Ms. Chen WenJuan, Secretary of Jiangsu University youth corps committee and Deputy Director of Students Affairs Division; Prof. Gao Jing, Dean of OEC; Mr. Jiang YongHua, Deputy Director of International Office; Ms. Wu XiaoFeng, vice dean of School of Literature and Law; Ms. Xu GuangPing, National Mandarin Test Controller.
The final is divided into three rounds: Speech on a given topic, Questionnaire on Chinese language and culture as well as exiting talent shows. Every participant took a draw to get the order of the play. In the speech round, three different topics where given to three different level groups. For Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced groups the topics are “My teacher”, “My Jiangsu University” and “China in my sight” respectively. In the elementary group, participants learned Chinese for very short period, 4 to 6 months. Although they learnt less and are not so skilled, they clearly expressed their deep feelings and gratitude on their favourite teachers. Intermediate group students came up with much more fluent Chinese in expressing their love on attractive Jiangsu University, life and study here. The Advanced group participants indeed gave wonderful speeches with rich content about their view on China and impressed the judges with their standard mandarin pronunciation.
Chinese language and culture knowledge quiz round is brilliant, the participants stayed calm and confident in answering various questions testing their understanding on China and Chinese. The final round was the talent show and the participants came up various amazing performances, such as dramas, Chinese poetry reading, Chinese songs, dances, Chinese painting, Calligraphy, Martial arts and comedy shows. Their performances won the laughter, praise and applause of judges and the audiences.
After all the three rounds, nine participants won third prize, six won second prize and three (Nitin, Mayuko and Dinah) won first prizes. Apart from these, Daniel James Schuster won the prize of “Most artistic participant”, Afsar Khan won “Most popular Participant”. Judges presented the prizes and certificates to the winners with congratulations from everyone and motivation to continue to study Chinese with passion and to know the Chinese culture and feel its infinite charisma.
