On February 23, the Third Session of the Fourth Faculty and trade union members' congress, that is Jiangsu University Cadre and Teacher Conference is held on campus of JSU.

In the morning, President Prof. Yan Xiaohong, gave an annual report titled “Targeting more, Conquering Difficulties and Endeavoring to Write a New Chapter in the Construction of High-Level Research Universities”. The report summarizes the remarkable achievements of Jiangsu University in 2018, highlighting 2018 as a landmark year in Jiangsu university development process, and embarking on a new journey of research university construction at a higher starting point. The report also analyzes the situation and opportunities throughout this development, and on this basis, puts forward the overall objectives, tasks and specific measures of the university work in 2019, emphasizing that 2019 is the year to implement the spirit of the Fourth Party Congress and the entire university should focus on the objectives and tasks of the fourth party congress, and further focus on the "National Highest Lever" and "Internationalization".

Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Chair of University Committee, gave a concluding speech at the afternoon session. He emphasized four points of view on the work of JSU in 2019: First, it is necessary to thoroughly implement the spirit of the fourth party congress of JSU. All units should further unify their thinking, build consensus, adhere to the goal orientation, strengthen planning, and study and publicize and implement the spirit of the Fourth Party Congress of JSU as an important task for the present and future. Second, we must uphold and strengthen the party's overall leadership in university work. The whole university should conscientiously study and implement President Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the spirit of the 19^th  National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the National Education Conference, further strengthen the party's leadership over university work, and earnestly strengthen grassroots party building. Third, strengthen confidence and strive for first-class disciplines, and promote the high-quality connotative development of our university. Fourth, we must unswervingly promote and strengthen the work of strictly administering the party. JSU should continue to consolidate and deepen the provincial party committee's inspection and rectification results, further reinforce the main responsibility, deepen the internal control mechanism, and consistently grasp the style of work. Prof. Yuan Shouqi pointed out that the creation of first-class disciplines and the construction of high-level research universities is a glorious mission and a great responsibility and make a new and greater contribution to the goal of being a world-class university, and welcoming the 70^th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China with outstanding achievements.

During the meeting, the participants also listened to various reports of the labor union work, the university financial work, the proposal work, and the labor union fund review. On the afternoon of the 23^rd, the official representatives were divided into 20 delegations, which reviewed the work report of the president, the report of the trade union, and the strategic plan for the development of the medium and long-term career of JSU, and filled out the proposal form. The meeting also announced the adjustments and additions representatives of the 4^th faculty and trade union members' congress, the members of the Presidium of the Teachers' Congress, the Chairman of the Labor Union, the Director and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of the Teachers' Congress.
