From September 15 to 22, 2016, a delegation led by Vice President Shi Weidong visited the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, and the University of Western Australia. The delegation achieved fruitful results in international scientific research cooperation, teacher visits, student joint training, and personnel recruitment.
During the visit to the National University of Singapore, the delegation received a warm welcome from Prof. Nhan Phan-Thien, Director of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Prof. Shu Chang. Both universities introduced their development experiences, research areas and personnel training, and reached a consensus on scientific research cooperation, student exchange, overseas study in the field of fluid mechanics, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and so on.
During the visit to Nanyang Technological University, the delegation visited the Nanyang Institute of Environment and Water Resources, the School of Urban Construction and Environmental Engineering, and exchanged views with the head and teachers of Nanyang Technological University. Prof. NG Wun Jern, Executive Dean of Nanyang Institute of Environment and Water Resources, fully appreciated the cooperation between the two universities and expressed their willingness to further promote scientific research cooperation. The delegation then visited the laboratory. Nanyang Institute of Environment and Water Resources is one of the world's largest environmental research institutions. Environmental and water technology is the dominant field of the university and is also the key developmental field. Subsequently, the delegation visited the Nanyang Institute of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, met with Vice President Ang Wei Tech and visited their laboratory. The two sides had an in-depth discussion and reached a consensus on scientific research cooperation, graduate training and young teachers’ exchange study. During the visit, the delegation also held a Talent Introduction Seminar, which attracted over 40 Chinese doctoral students studying in Singapore. Vice President Shi Weidong introduced the policy of overseas talents, and warmly welcomed overseas talents to join our university.
In Australia, the delegation was warmly welcomed by the University of Western Australia. The delegation exchanged views with leaders from the International Department, the Engineering, Computer and Mathematics Sciences Department, and the School of Business. The two universities expressed a strong sense of cooperation on student exchange, dual degree programs for undergraduates, a joint training program for graduate students, and the exchange of young teachers. Vice President Shi Weidong and Professor John Dell, dean of the Department of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences jointly signed a cooperation agreement.
These three universities all have an important influence in the world with strong educational and research capabilities. In the 2015 QS World University Rankings, the National University of Singapore ranked 22nd, while Nanyang Technological University ranked 39th, and University of Western Australia ranked 89th. The visit has further expanded the international influence of our university and effectively promoted international cooperation in scientific research, teacher academic exchanges and students' joint training with high-level universities.
