On Oct. 19th, the 22nd Tri-U International Joint Seminar and Symposium was held in the Conference Center at Jiangsu University (JSU). 117 delegates from 10 universities in China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia and Korea took part in the grand event. President Prof. Yuan Shouqi and Vice President Prof. Chen Long attended the Opening Ceremony.
At the Opening Ceremony, President Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Chair of the 22nd Tri-U Organizing Committee delivered the opening speech. He welcomed the delegates and gave a brief introduction of JSU’s scientific and academic achievements on its way to building a well-respected research-oriented university with strength in engineering and a center of international cooperation. He highlighted the significant importance and huge contribution of previous Tri-U sessions and wished the 22nd Tri-U great success. Congratulatory speeches were delivered by heads of the other nine delegations including Prof. Yoshihiro Komada, President of Mie University, Japan, Prof. Niwes Nantachit, President of Chiang Mai University, Thailand, Prof. Herry Suhardiyanto, Rector of Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia. Then as the words “22nd Tri-U 2015”spun on a glowing LED ball, the event formally began.
During the seminar scholars, mainly students, conducted academic exchanges on five topics, Population, Food, Energy, Environment and Internationalization of Higher Education. They also took part in a workshop design program, field trips and cultural performances. Through the academic exchanges participants had the opportunity to interact face to face with their peers and discuss issues of common interest, furthering their research though the interaction of ideas from cross-cultural perspectives. For the workshop focusing on Unity of Humans and Nature, students presented amazing designs with the facilities of Industry Center of JSU, including Print & Remove Optimized United Devices, Modes of an Eco-friendly Canteen, and Solutions for Water Pollution by using Moringa Seeds. In their field trips all the delegates had the chance to observe Chinese tea culture and agricultural development. At the welcome party JSU teachers and students presented an international show including local songs from China, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Korea and Russia.
The 22nd Tri-U held its closing ceremony on Oct. 22nd. Awards were given for the seven Best Presentations, four Best Poster Presentations and one for the best field work. 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were also awarded to Workshop groups.
The Tri-U International Joint Seminar and Symposium was initiated by Mie University (MU) of Japan, Chiang Mai University (CMU) of Thailand and Jiangsu University (JSU) of China in 1994. Since then, the Tri-U IJSS has become a yearly regular event. Under its initial theme “The Role of Asia in the World”, this conference offers young scientists and students a unique opportunity to exchange their ideas on the topics of Population, Food, Energy, Environment and new frontiers. In 2011 Bogor Agricultural University was added as one of the host universities. Bogor Agricultural University will also host the 23rd Tri-U International Joint Seminar and Symposium in Oct. 2016.
