Recently, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) Prof. Klaus Mainzer, sent a congratulatory letter to Jiangsu University (JSU). He noted in the letter that Prof. Zhao Yutao from School of Materials Science & Engineering of JSU was elected as Ordinary Member of Technical and Environmental Sciences of European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The European Academy of Sciences and Arts is an international academic organization with a wide reputation in the field of science and art, dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary cooperation between renowned scientists, leading artists and theoretical practitioners in various disciplines, with seven faculties: humanities, medicine, arts, natural sciences, social sciences, law and economics, technology and environmental sciences, and world religions. Among more than 2,000 members of the academy 32 are Nobel laureates.
Zhao Yutao, ph. D, professor, doctoral supervisor, senior visiting scholar to Imperial College London from 2004 to 2005, served as the director of the Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center of High-performance Al-Mg Alloys and Composite and Jiangsu Province Engineering Research Center of Aluminum Matrix Composite, head of the Key Library of Metal Matrix Composites and Matal Functional Material in Machinery Industry and the managing director of Nonferrous Metals Society of China.Prof. Zhao was selected into Jiangsu “333 Project” Young and Middle-aged Leading Sci- tech Talent Program in 2008, National Hundred-Thousand-Ten thousand Talents Project in 2009, and began enjoying the State Council special government allowances for experts in 2012. In 2020, he was elected as the Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and received the honorary title “Top Ten Outstanding Patent Inventors” in Jiangsu Province. He has long been engaged in scientific research and teaching on high-performance metal materials, metal matrix composites and biological composites, and has made remarkable achievements in the system design, research and development of new materials, key technological breakthroughs and application of high-performance in-situ nanoparticles reinforced aluminum alloys. He pays particular attention to extending the innovation chains of “basic research, research and development of new materials, key technological breakthroughs, market application” and the protection of independent intellectual property rights, which has been recognized widely by scholars both at home and abroad. The new material developed and crucial technologies have large-scale application in high-end vehicles and new energy vehicles (NEVs), such as Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Tesla, Li Auto, and in high-speed railway, advanced aircraft and other major national projects, which has produced outstanding economic and social benefits. He has been the principal researcher of more than 50 scientific research projects, such as the National 863 Project, the National Natural Science Foundation Key Project, and won numerous awards, including three first-class and five second-class Awards for Science and Technology Progress at the provincial and ministerial levels, two China Patent Excellence Awards, one China Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration and Innovation Achievement Award.Besides, he has published over 300 academic papers with more than 270 papers included in SCI, won more than 90 Chinese patents of inventions and 6 international PCT patents of inventions, published 8 monographs, among which In-Situ Synthesis of Aluminum Matrix Composites and the Chinese version was published globally respectively by the famous internation publisher Springer and Science Press. Moreover, he presided over and participated in the preparation of 2 national standards, which have been released and implemented, promoting the application of in-situ nanoparticles reinforced aluminum alloys in aviation industry, high-speed highway and new energy vehicles on a larger scale.
