On the 1 and 2 of June 2022, the 5th “Stellar Cup Graduation Design Competition” of China Mechanical Education Union of Excellent Engineers (MEUEE) was held successfully at Jiangsu University (JSU), under the guidance of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and the Steering Committee for the Teaching of Mechanical Majors in Colleges and Universities, and co-sponsored by the China Machinery Industry Outstanding Engineer Education Alliance and the China Mechanical Engineering Society.

Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering Lu Daming, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Jiang Zhuangde, Chair of University Committee for CPC affairs of JSU Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Executive Vice President of the Robot Research Institute of Zhejiang University Lu Guodong, Deputy General Manager of the Hengxing Group Zheng Guohua, Executive President of the Beijing Jingdiao Group Zhang Baoquan, General Manager of the Five-axis Application Technology Center of the Diao Group Wei Chengfeng, and guests from Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Dalian University of Technology, Beijing University of Technology, JSU and numerous other universities and enterprises attended the opening ceremony.

Secretary-General of the China Machinery Industry Outstanding Engineer Education Alliance He Cunfu, hosted the opening ceremony. Prof. Yuan Shouqi delivered the opening address at the ceremony, expressing his congratulation to JSU for hosting the competition, and hoped that this competition would provide a platform for universities to learn from and promote communication with each other, cultivate the students' ability to solve engineering problems, comprehensively apply gained knowledge and master the use of modern production tools. He also expressed a wish to see a promotion of undergraduate graduation design initiatives for mechanical majors in Chinese universities guided by engineering practice ability, and ultimately improve the quality of engineering and technical personnel training in China.
After the opening ceremony, an academic salon report was held, in which Academician Jiang Zhuangde, Lu Guodong, Wei Chengfeng and previous winners of gold and silver prizes gave keynote speeches respectively.
The finals of the competition was divided into 9 groups. Each group of 5 judges, judged on the spot and the works with the highest scores in each group entered the final group defense competition competing for the gold medal. The Gold Award is judged by 51 judges based on each competitor’s on-site defense.

Wang Yunan from Tsinghua University won the individual gold medal. Hu Zheya and Chen Hao from Zhejiang University won the team gold award. The judges also awarded 7 silver awards, 18 second prizes, 36 third prizes and 77 excellent awards. Tang Yuting from JSU won a Silver Award for "Optimal Design of Submersible Sewage Pumps and Research on Internal Two-Phase Flow".
In addition, the expert judges and the public judges jointly voted to determine the 10 most “commercial value awards” and 3 special awards specifically aimed at combating the current "epidemic".
The closing and awards ceremony was held on the afternoon of June 2nd.

Vice President of JSU Prof. Tian Lixin gave the closing summary speech. he said that the teachers and students of the alliance universities reflected the level and characteristics in this competition, showcasing  the talents of college students serving the industry and the country in the new era. He hoped that the students would continue their spirit of innovation, enlighten innovative thinking, continuously accumulate innovative strength, and sing the song of youth on the magnificent journey ensuring the development of the national machinery industry.
Since its official launch on the 4th November 2021, the 5th "Stellar Cup" Graduation Design Competition had received extensive attention and support from alliance universities and enterprises. The competition collected 1,002 valid entries from more than 100 colleges and universities across the country. The participating colleges and universities exceeded 100 entries and the participating projects exceeded 1,000 entries for the first time. There were 747 entries which passed formal entry scrutiny , totaling 610 individual projects, 127 team projects, and 10 enterprise-funded projects, which accounted for the historical high number of entries received.
The outstanding graduation design works of the competition will be promoted to colleges and universities nationwide in the form of the "Case Collection of Excellent Works of the Completed Design Competition", and become a demonstration of undergraduate graduation design for engineering practice ability training, so as to promote the overall level of undergraduate graduation designs of mechanical majors in the various colleges and universities in China.
China’s Machinery Industry Outstanding Engineer Education Alliance "Stellar Cup" Graduation Design Competition was founded in 2016, the competition intended to promote and "create a large number of innovative ability opportunities, adapt to the needs of the development of the industry and economic and social development of high-quality engineering and technical personnel". The starting point, was always to combine actual engineering needs of enterprises in the machinery industry, pay close attention to the development status and trends of the machinery industry, to target the guidance of students in the cultivation of innovation awareness in order to build a high level of undergraduate education, contribute to the development of diverse and outstanding talents who will adapt and lead in the future.
