Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Chair of University Committee of JSU, led a delegation to visit Macau and achieved rewarding results
From October 25th to 28th, Prof. Yuan Shouqi, Chair of University Committee and his delegation were invited to Macao to participate in the "1st China-Portuguese-Speaking Countries University Presidents Forum and the 4th Joint Conference for Education Cooperation of the Jiangsu, Macao and Portuguese Speaking Countries". Meanwhile, Prof. Yuan signed the Cooperation and Exchange Agreement between with the Macau University of Science and Technology and attended the inauguration ceremony of the Hong Kong and Macau Alumni Association of Jiangsu University.
This great event opened at the University of Macao on the 26th, with more than 70 universities from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries. Representatives from higher education institutions gathered to discuss the prospects and opportunities for development under the “The Belt and Road” Initiative. Tan Junrong, Director of the Social and Cultural Affairs Department of the Macao SAR Government, Xue Xiaofeng, Deputy Director of the Central Government Liaison Office in Macao, Yuan Hengge, Deputy Special Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Macao, and Liu Jin, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education of China attended the opening ceremony. Participants expressed their thoughts and suggestions, and conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on improving the role of the bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, driven by the “The Belt and Road” Initiative and the “Urban Agglomeration Development Plan of Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Dawan District”.
Huang Ting, Deputy Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office, gave a speech to the delegates in the afternoon of the 26th to publicize the advantages of Jiangsu University, the achievements of internationalization and the cooperation with Macao-Portuguese-speaking universities. In the afternoon of the 27th, more than 70 colleges and universities on the closing ceremony jointly announced the "Macao Higher Education Cooperation Declaration.
In the afternoon of the 27th, Prof. Yuan signed an agreement with the vice president of Macau University of Science and Technology and the Macao Legislative Council member Pang Chuan on the basis of the exchanges and cooperation. The "Cooperation and Exchange Agreement" between two universities strengthens the exchange of teachers and students and academic cooperation between the two sides. In the morning of the 28th, more than 20 alumni representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and Zhuhai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and five representatives of Jiangsu University gathered in Macao to hold the inaugural meeting of Jiangsu University Hong Kong and Macao Alumni Association. Prof. Yuan introduced the development achievements of our university in recent years and expressed his hopes to further strengthen the alumni liaison, improve the working mechanism and innovative activities, and concentrate on building the Hong Kong and Macao Alumni Association into a win-win platform for promoting cooperation and exchanges and mutual assistance. Alumni Mr. Li Zhizhong and Alumni Mr. Zhang Lejun were also hired as industry professors at the event. Prof. Yuan issued a letter of appointment for members of the board of directors and industry professors.
In recent years, China's relations with Portuguese-speaking countries have made great progress, and exchanges and cooperation in education have achieved many results. With the opening of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will attract more development opportunities. Our university has a good cooperation foundation with universities in Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries. It also has many outstanding alumni in Macao and Hong Kong. Jiangsu university will make full use of the platform role of Macao to cultivate more high-level international talents for Sino-Portuguese economic and trade cooperation and humanities. Communication and political mutual trust contribute to the power.
