Three scientific and technological achievements from JSU won awards at the 2015 National Science and Technology Conference in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on January 8th. This represents JSU’s best success ever for the event. Researcher Shi Weidong and researcher Li Hong from the Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology led the project ‘Research and Application of the Key Technique of the New-type, Low-energy and Multi-function Water-saving Irrigation Equipment,’ which won the second prize of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress. After more than ten years of systematic and intensive research in the field of water-saving irrigation technology, this project group established a system which is both low-energy and portable, invented a series of multi-function spraying apparatus, and created energy and material-saving water lift equipment. At the same time they also formulated nine national and industry standards, and invented more than twenty new-type units and products. The achievements broadly applied to 26 provinces, cities and municipalities across the country and the products invented are listed among the purchasing items of the central drought resistant goods. Two projects applied by Prof. Ren Xudong from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Zhao Wenxiang from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering won the second prize for National Technological Invention. The achievements of these projects have been extensively applied and increased enormously the key technology index among the relevant fields. In the past five years, JSU won seven National Awards of Science and Technology Progress.
